Swati Maliwal assault case: Bibhav Kumar's judicial custody extended till June 22

In the latest development in the Swati Maliwal assault case, Delhi’s Tis Hazari Court on Saturday extended the judicial custody of accused Bibhav Kumar till June 22. He was presented in the court through video conferencing.

Earlier, Kumar was sent to 14-day judicial custody on June 1. Today was the last day of his judicial custody which has been extended now. In the meantime, two bail pleas of Kumar have also been rejected by the Tis Hazari court.

Bibhav Kumar makes efforts for bail

On May 27, he moved his first plea which was dismissed by the Tis Hazari court after hearing arguments of both the parties. Notably, Kumar was arrested on May 18. Later, he was sent to 5-day police custody following a 14-day judicial custody by Tis Hazari court on June 1.

Later on June 13, he moved another bail plea which was again dismissed by the Delhi court.  After the dismissal of both pleas, Kumar moved to the High Court seeking regular plea.

Bibhav Kumar, an aide of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been accused by Aam Aadmi Party’s Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal of assault. According to Mailwal, she was on Arvind Kejriwal’s official residence to meet him on the morning of May 13, when an argument happened between her and Kumar.

As per Maliwal, Kumar slapped her seven to eight times, and 'kicked on the chest, stomach, and pelvis area. She also accused Kumar of threatening her to kill.

The investigation is on in the case and the SIT has also been constituted, which is probing the case. After Delhi police arrested Kumar, they took him to the CM's residence and questioned him at the site of the scuffle to find out details about the sequence of events that took place on the morning of May 13. 

The Delhi Police had also seized the Digital Video Recorder (DVR) along with other documents from the CM house and sent it to the forensic lab.
